Scrip FAQ

Q: What is scrip?

A: Scrip is a term that means "substitute money".  You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials. The scrip program allows you to earn money for your individual student accounts (ISA) and for the band at the same time.  The beauty of this program is that you NEVER have to sell anything or buy anything that you would not ordinarily buy!  It just requires a little forward thinking.

Q: How does scrip work?

A: We buy the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount and the discount goes to the band and your ISA. Discounts range from 1.5% to over 15%. The cards we get are full face value, the difference between face value and the discounted price is what we raise. For example, if you purchase a $100 Wal-Mart shopping card, you pay $100 and receive a card worth $100 but you earn 2% or $2.

Q: What retailers are available?

A: There are hundreds of retailers that participate in the program. Here is a sampling of some common retailers and the % that we receive.

  • AMC theaters (7-16%)
  • American Eagle (9%)

Q: How do I place an order?

A: Fill out an order form (click here for order form) and place it in the gray box on top of the cabinet by the water fountain in the band room. This box will be checked at the end of school on Friday of the week that the order is due.  We also make ourselves available at band functions to pick up orders. You can also contact us ( to arrange to drop off an order at our house or mail it to us.

Q: How do I pay for my order?

A: You include a check or money order (made out to EPIMC) or cash with your order form.

Q: When does my order come in?

A: We place the order on Thursdays and usually receive the order early the following week. During the holidays when orders are heavy, occasionally the order does not arrive until Thursday.

Q: How do I pick up my order?

A: As soon as the order arrives and is sorted, an email goes out notifying everyone that the order is ready to be picked up.  You can then contact us to arrange pick up. During marching band season this is usually after practice or the game.

Q: How much money goes to my ISA?

A: The amount raised is split 50/50 between your ISA and the band. For example if you purchase a $100 gift card with an 8% discount, $8 is raised - $4 for the band and $4 for your ISA.  This may not seem like much but it really adds up!
